World Human Rights Day Anchoring Script And Celebration Ideas

World Human Rights DayW

People across the globe celebrate World Human Rights Day on December 10 every year. In the article below, we will discuss a brief history of human rights day, why celebrate it, and human rights day theme. Also, there is a sample of human rights day anchoring script.

Brief History

Initially, 10 December date was chosen to honor the General Assembly’s proclamation of UDHR also known as the Universal declaration of human rights on December 10, 1948. Remarkably, this was the first global proclamation of human rights and one of the major steps and achievements of the United Nations. Remarkably, the first celebration of Human Rights day was held in 1950. Back then, the assembly passed the resolution 423(V) and invited all states and organizations to adopt 10 December as international Human Rights Day.

Why We Celebrate Human Rights Day?

We celebrate 10 December as Human Rights Day every year to let people know and push forward their rights no matter where they live in the world. Human rights are our most fundamental rights as human beings. These rights include our right to live, good health, freedom of thought and speech, education and equal rights and status.

Moreover, we celebrate human rights day to remind ourselves that despite any sort of situation, there are still human rights violated. Also, we celebrate human rights day to realize that we can still promote and safeguard our rights.

However, not every country celebrates this day on December 10. For instance, South Africa holds it on 21 March. This is in the remembrance of the Sharpeville massacre which took place on March 21, 1960.

World Human Rights Day Theme

Each year we celebrate human rights day theme with a mission and a theme. There are different themes for each year. For instance,

  • the theme for 2015 was “Our Rights, Our Freedoms, Always.”
  • 2017 human rights day theme was “Let’s stand up for equality, justice, and human dignity”
  • and theme for 2018 was “stand up for the human rights”.

Accordingly, this year the theme and mission for human rights are yet not confirmed. So, as soon as we get it, we will update.
