Global Handwashing Day (GHD) is an activity to motivate and make aware people around the world to improve their handwashing habits by washing their hands with soap at critical moments throughout each day. Celebration of Global Handwashing Day

On 15 October 2014, Madhya Pradesh won the Guinness World Record for the most massive and washing program. There were 1,276,425 children in 51 different districts participating.

And now Every year on 15th of October people around the world celebrate Global Handwashing Day in many ways to show how to wash hands in the right way to the less accessible developing countries and showing handwashing lessons, events, and materials for thousands of students across the world.   

Purpose of Hand Washing Day

Indeed, Global Handwashing Day is dedicated to raising awareness among people for prevention of diseases, and this event now takes place every year on 15 October.

Benefits of Handwashing Day

Washing hands with soap reduce illness and the spread of germs much more effectively than with water alone. Although people around the world wash their hands with water, few use soap to wash their hands because soap and water for handwashing might be less accessible in developing countries.

It’s estimated that almost 1.4 million children under age of 5 years die from diarrheal diseases and pneumonia, which is the top two killers of young children around the world.

Handwashing with soap could prevent about 1 out of every ten episodes of diarrheal illnesses3 and almost 1 out of 6 episodes of respiratory infection like pneumonia.

History of Handwashing Day

Global Handwashing Day was initiated by the Public-Private Partnership for Handwashing (PPPHW) in August 2008 at the annual World Water Week in Stockholm, Sweden. This means that the first Global Handwashing Day took place on 15 October 2008. The date was appointed by the UN General Assembly. The year 2008 was also the International Year of Sanitation.

Conclusion

Global Handwashing Day is an opportunity to design, test and replicate creative ways to design, test, and replicate creative ways to encourage people to wash their hands with soap at critical times.

Therefore, this would be great if you organize a function at your school and make all of you students to participate in that and guide them of Global Handwashing Day.

Important: Make sure you and your family know when and how to wash your hands properly to prevent Diarrhea and Acute respiratory infection.
