1. Revamp Your Note-Taking Skills
One of the major challenges (or issues) that countless students face is not taking proper notes. Notes should be very organized, categorized by date, and include a detailed overview of each class (and each topic covered in each class). If you’re not being as thorough as possible, you aren’t learning to the best of your ability.
If you truly want to increase your note-taking ability, you need to learn how to effectively record everything that matters during class. Whether you use a laptop, tablet, or pen/paper doesn’t matter. What truly matters is that you record anything that’s vital to success in that particular class.
Organized note-taking is important, but another thing to consider is what you do with those notes after you take them. Notes need to be reviewed, quizzed, and reviewed again in order to be truly effective. We go into more detail about this in the next section.
2. You Should Be Reviewing Your Notes Daily
Don’t expect to be able to automatically recall all of the notes you take. In order to actually understand and digest the notes you’ve taken, you need to be reviewing them every single day (ideally multiple times per day).
The absolute minimum number of times you should be reviewing your notes is once per day (i.e. once every 24 hours). It’s been scientifically proven that reviewing something at least once per day increases the brain’s ability to recall that information. So, what does that mean for you and your notes? You need to be reviewing them (as much as possible).

Thanks to the internet, there are countless ways to maximize (and enhance) your learning experience. One of the very best ways to add another level of enhancement to your study routine is by using homework/tutoring websites to get answers on homework, help with preparing for an exam, etc. Whether you need to hire a tutor to understand a complex topic, or you simply need some help on a homework assignment, there are numerous websites out there that are designed to assist you.
4. Don’t Underestimate the Power of Sleep
Contrary to popular belief, staying up all night to study doesn’t help all that much. Sure, maybe it’s necessary to sometimes pull an all-nighter. However, more often than not this will only have negative consequences (especially if you make a habit out of it).
If you’re tired, your brain isn’t going to be functioning at an optimal level. The very best way to enhance your study routine is by making sure that you get enough sleep. Quality rest (for at least seven hours) is absolutely essential to your success as a student.
5. Consider a Digital Detox
Students use technology for everything these days (both in and out of the classroom). One of the biggest ways that students get distracted during study sessions stems from the constant need to check their smartphones.
The best tactic to combat distractions is to simply remove them from the equation. When you’re about to start a study session, it’s recommended to put your phone, laptop, tablet, etc. in another room (unless you’re using them for studying).
6. Make Proper Nutrition a Priority
How many students do you know who subsist entirely on ramen noodles or takeout? Quite a few, probably. Why is this bad? Foods like these don’t provide your brain with the right type of fuel. In order to increase your brain’s function, you need to be eating a proper diet (consisting of high-quality, natural, minimally-processed foods).
If all you eat is junk, your brain will literally have a harder time creating neural-networks (via neurotransmitters).
On the contrary, if you eat healthy food (especially “brain food”), your brain will be able to operate at a higher level. Remember to also not forget about hydration, either. Aim for a minimum of six to eight cups of water per day (and remember that this is just a bare minimum).
